Dentist working on female patient

Increasing the amount of NHS treatment available with dentists is a top priority for NHS Herefordshire. During the last four years we have helped 26,000 local people find an NHS dentist. Even more people have been treated through our Dentist Access Centres.

How do I find out about NHS dentist availability?

For information about NHS dentist availability please telephone the NHS Herefordshire Dental Helpline on 01432 363 971.  Our team will endeavour to signpost you to a dental practice that best suits your needs. Whilst we try to provide services close to where people live, you might need to travel to another part of the county.

Dental Access Centres

In addition to local NHS dental practices there are seven Dental Access Centres in the county. They offer routine and urgent dental care for people who are unable to get NHS dental treatment elsewhere. Urgent cases are given priority, and it is suggested that you telephone the centre before attending to confirm opening times and availability of appointments.

What do I do if I need a dentist out of normal working hours?

Call 0330 1239309. The service is available to all Herefordshire residents, whether or not you have a regular NHS dentist, or have a private dentist. It is also available to visitors to Herefordshire.

Appointments outside normal surgery hours are generally only for urgent cases such as severe dental and facial pain not controlled by painkillers; infection of the teeth and gums or injury to the teeth - for example as a result of a knock or fall.

What shall I do if I need urgent dental care during normal working hours?

If you need urgent dental advice or care during normal working hours, please contact your own regular dental practice. However, if you do not have a regular dentist, you can contact one of the Dental Access Centres which are listed above or, if it is after 6pm, contact the out-of-hours service.
