Emergency contraception

Women are able to access emergency hormonal contraception (EHC) easily, safely and effectively from pharmacies in Herefordshire, helping to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

NHS Herefordshire has commissioned a successful service from community pharmacies since June 2004 where emergency contraception is supplied free of charge. During the consultation the pharmacist will ask about any other drugs you may be taking, circumstances where referral for further medical advice may be necessary, and provide supporting information and advice on future contraception before a supply is made.

The success of emergency hormonal contraception depends upon the ability to obtain it promptly. Community pharmacies have longer opening hours and often there is no need for an appointment. The attached sheet shows you which pharmacies can provide this service and their opening hours.
