Services for all

Matters relating to sexual health and well-being are sensitive for most people, and in particular young people and those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT). Ease of access to a range of confidential services is a key priority for sexual health and is addressed in a variety of ways:

  • Anonymity is assured by using unique patient numbers and a separate IT system
  • Access is open to Herefordshire people as well as individuals who live in other areas
  • A mixture of booked appointments and "walk in" clinics are offered for both contraception and sexual health screening services
  • Patients are invited to access the service of their own accord; referrals are accepted from all staff working in health and social care
  • There are two dedicated clinics for young people aged 21 and under (see Young People's Services: 21s and Under) This service provides assurance that parents and relatives will not be aware of their attendance.
  • We participate in the condom distribution scheme (C-Card). Young people aged 24 and under can get free condoms from a variety of venues including Connexions Youth Service, School and College Nurses, and certain shops - see the Youthzone website
  • The Chlamydia Screening Programme provides urine and swab postal kits for those aged 24 and under, which are available free from the entrance of the clinic, and are also accessible on line
  • Texting services are used to inform patients of their results and to remind patients about their follow-up appointments
