Thinking about stopping

Congratulations! Just clicking on this section means that you are already thinking seriously about stopping smoking. You've taken the first and biggest step. But what next? How do you actually go about stopping smoking? Don't worry here are a few pointers to help.

Seven out of every ten smokers want to stop, but they don't all want to stop in the same way. It is important that you decide on a method that is suitable for you.

Once you have done the ground work and decided you want to stop, you need to decide on a method of support. With the help of a stop smoking advisor you're up to four times more likely to quit than if you go it alone.  You can contact a trained advisor through:

  • Most GP surgeries and pharmacies in Herefordshire
  • HALO leisure centres

OR, you can

  • Call the national Stop Smoking Helpline on 0800 1690169 or visit them at: http://smokefree.nhs.uk/
  • Call the local Stop Smoking Service on 01432 383567
  • Text "NOW" to 80 8000

Any one of these forms of support will provide you with a tailored quit plan designed to help you stop smoking.
